💬 Questions for Couples
describe our relationship in one word
One word forces a choice, and the choice is the data: 'safe' and 'electric' are both beautiful answers describing very different relationships - and hearing your partner's word (then comparing it to yours) is a full conversation in miniature. Here's how to play the tiny question properly.

how to play the one-word question
step 1
Pick silently, reveal together
No negotiating beforehand - count of three, both say your word. Simultaneity keeps answers honest and un-anchored.
step 2
Explain both choices
Each partner gets the floor: why this word, why now. The explanation is where the actual conversation lives - words are just the doors.
step 3
Play the time-series
Round two: one word for your first year. Round three: one word you WANT next year to deserve. The gap between rounds two and three is your relationship's roadmap.
step 4
Bank the words
Keep them in a shared note with dates. A yearly one-word log becomes the shortest, densest diary a couple can own.

variations & upgrades
mismatch protocol
Different words aren't a problem - they're perspective data. 'Safe' meets 'electric' and you learn what each of you treasures most right now. Curiosity about the other's word, never a debate about whose is correct.
the anniversary ritual
Same question every anniversary, words logged with the date. Ten entries in, you own a relationship time-series no photo album can match - and round one's word makes everyone emotional, guaranteed.
good questions, answered
The forced choice surfaces what's most figural for each partner right now - security, spark, growth, ease - and comparing words shows perspective differences you'd never otherwise name. The explanations after the reveal carry the real conversation; the words are just honest doors.
