🌍 Dates for Couples

geography games for couples

The best geography game for a couple is a GeoGuessr-style duel: you are both dropped at the same random street view and guess where on Earth you are, and the closer pin wins. For something free and daily, race the same Worldle or Globle each morning. For a screen-free night, draw the world map from memory and compare. All of them quietly build the best list a couple can keep, the places you both want to go.

how to run a geography game night

step 1

Warm up with a daily

Each of you plays today's Worldle or Globle without talking. Compare guesses. Fewest guesses scores 3 points, the other scores 1.

step 2

Play one timed main game

Five rounds of street-view guessing, or a 12-minute Sporcle 'countries of the world' quiz. Race or co-op, but decide before you start.

step 3

Finish on paper

Ten minutes, two pens, a blank sheet each. Draw the world, or just Europe, or your own country's states. Compare with a real map and score three things you pick in advance.

step 4

Pin the prize

The winner adds one place to your shared travel map. Over a few months that map turns into a list of trips you both actually want.

how do you make a shared travel map?

Use a paper world map on the wall with two colours of pins, one each, plus a third colour for places you both chose. Or make a free Google My Maps map you can both edit. Add a short note to each pin: why that place, what you would eat there. When both your colours land on the same country, that is your next trip.

eight geography games for two

  1. 1. GeoGuessr duel. You see a random street view and drop a pin on the world map, and the closer guess wins. Its duel and party modes put you on the same locations head to head. There is a limited free tier and a paid one.
  2. 2. Worldle. A daily puzzle where you guess a country from its silhouette, with distance and direction hints after each wrong guess. Six tries, about two minutes.
  3. 3. Globle. A daily mystery country on a 3D globe. Each guess shows redder the closer you are. Race each other to the fewest guesses.
  4. 4. Sporcle country quiz. Name every country in the world against a timer. The co-op version is the fun one, with continents split between you.
  5. 5. Seterra map quizzes. Click the country, capital or flag as it is named. Good for learning one region a week together.
  6. 6. Draw the world from memory. Five minutes, no peeking. Then compare with a real map and laugh at where you both put New Zealand.
  7. 7. Capital-city duel. Take turns naming a country while the other names its capital. Three misses and you are out. Write the misses down and learn them for next time.
  8. 8. The $1,000 trip. Each of you plans a four-day trip for two on a $1,000 budget using real flight and stay prices. Pitch it in five minutes, the other votes. Sometimes the winner gets booked.

variations & upgrades

long-distance version

Every online game here works over a call. Start a GeoGuessr party or play the same daily puzzle at the same time, then share screens for the reveal. The $1,000 trip is even better long distance, because the trip can be the reunion.

learn a region a month

Pick one region, say Southeast Asia, for a month. A daily Seterra quiz, one documentary set there, one dinner from its cuisine. By the end you can both name every country and you have a shortlist of where to go.

good questions, answered

GeoGuessr duels, the daily Worldle and Globle puzzles, Sporcle and Seterra map quizzes, drawing the world from memory, a capital-city duel, a shared travel pin map and a plan-a-$1,000-trip challenge. Most are free and all work for two.
