🍺 Dates for Couples
brewery tours for couples
A good brewery date is one guided tour or a self-guided crawl of three breweries, with one shared tasting flight at each stop and a ride home booked before you start. Guided tours at craft breweries usually cost $10 to $25 per person with a tasting included, and a flight of four or five small pours is typically $10 to $20. Bring a scorecard and the afternoon turns into a game.

how to plan a three-stop brewery crawl
step 1
Map three stops close together
Find three breweries within a short walk or ride of each other. Check their hours, because many taprooms open only Thursday to Sunday or not until mid-afternoon.
step 2
Book the one guided tour
If any stop offers a tour of the brewhouse, book it for stop one while you are sharpest. Tours usually last 45 to 60 minutes and end with a tasting.
step 3
Share flights and eat at stop two
One flight between two at each stop keeps the afternoon fun rather than messy. Plan food at the middle stop, either a taproom kitchen or a food truck nearby.
step 4
Sort the ride home first
Book the rideshare, check the last train, or agree who is driving and not drinking, before you leave the house. It is the one part of the plan that cannot be improvised.
how do you play the brewery scorecard game?
Each of you scores every beer out of 5 on four things without showing the other, then you reveal at the end of the flight. The point is not the scores, it is finding out where you disagree.
- Bonus round: before tasting, each guess the style from the menu description. One point per correct guess.
- Closest scores across the flight picks the next stop. Furthest apart buys the snacks.
| category | what to judge | score |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Colour, clarity or haze, foam | 1 to 5 |
| Smell | Hops, malt, fruit, roast, funk | 1 to 5 |
| Taste | Bitter, sweet, sour, balance | 1 to 5 |
| Would I order a pint? | The only score that really matters | Yes or no |
which beer styles should a flight include?
- A lager or pilsner. Crisp and light, and a fair test of a brewery's skill.
- An IPA. Bitter and hoppy. Hazy IPAs are softer and fruitier.
- A sour or fruited beer. Tart and the most divisive pour on most menus.
- A stout or porter. Dark, roasty, often coffee or chocolate notes.
- Order lightest to darkest so strong flavours don't flatten the delicate ones.
what is the non-drinker version?
Many taprooms now pour non-alcoholic beer, house-made sodas, kombucha or cold brew, and plenty of breweries welcome non-drinkers on tours. Score the NA options on the same card, or make one partner the official designated driver and judge. A brewhouse tour is interesting whether or not you drink the end product.
variations & upgrades
long-distance version
Each of you buys the same four-pack or mixed case from a brewery that ships to both states or countries, or pick the same widely sold styles. Taste them on a video call with the scorecard and reveal scores together.
at-home brewery night
Pick up a mixed selection of local cans, pour small samples into four glasses each and run the scorecard blind. One of you pours while the other guesses, then swap.
go on a brewery bus tour
Organised brewery bus tours in many cities cost roughly $60 to $120 per person and include transport, often a guide and sometimes the tastings. Nobody has to drive, and someone else has done the planning.
good questions, answered
Yes. You get a behind-the-scenes look at how beer is made, something to talk about at every stop, and an easy reason to compare tastes. Keep it to three stops, share flights and book a ride home before you start.
